Educational Tour for the Children of Manual Scavengers
The people belonging to scavenging community lack the experience of visiting new places, viewing rare historical places, learning from such visits and educational tours. So an educational tour was Vizhuthugal arranged for educating children of scavenging community and entertaining them.
To participate in this program (May-2012) on 40 childrens belonging to Manual scavenging families were selected from Tiruppur corparation, Palladam municipality and Udumalai municipality. They were taken to new places and educated through stories, songs and games about importance of education, preventing drop outs from schools, and continuing education. The Tshildar of Udumalai Taluk Mr.Nallasamy commenced the educational tour and supported the cause of development of children of manual scavengers.
Motivational event for guiding poor students
We conducted motivational event for guiding poor students who have passed / failed 10th and 12th class exams on 2013 at Coimbatore district. 420 students participated in this event. Mr. Kristhu Dass Gandhi, IAS, (Retd), Additional Chief Secretary of Government of Tamilnadu provided guidance, advices, consultancy for accessing government welfare schemes and opportunities for employment. His speech was a great source of motivation for the participating students. Vizhuthugal director M.Thangavel, SC/ST district welfare officer Mr. Suresh and School teacher Mr. Kanagaraj were educated the students about GO no 92 and motivated them to continue their education and improve their skills. All 420 students participated interactively and found the event much helpful.
Safety Equipments distributed function
Safety Equipments distributed program (2013) organized by Vizhuthugal at the Town Panchayath office in Avinashi on Tiruppur District. Safety equipments were distributed to Sweepers. The Sweepers are highly subject to unhygienic work environment at their work places. Vizhuthugal has been working well to ensure Scavengers' safety and their development.In the function held Monday 30 Sweepers were provided with safety equipments like apron, shoes, gloves, nose covers and caps.
The program was conducted at the Pattaalamman Koil premises of Sweepers' Colony within Palladam Municipality on 2013 to distribute free safety equipments to 12 sweepers. The sweepers were also trained to lead a healthy life and keep sanitation in the surroundings.
Training for School Headmasters and Teachers
A District level Training of Trainers (TOT) was held at the Government Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore on February, 2014. The participants from Coimbatore and Tiruppur Districts. Were as follows: Head masters and teachers -108, BRTEs-153,DITE -01,NGO Heads-06,Total -268 persons.

- Development of Scavenging community and Education
- The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act – 2009.
- Tamilnadu Government Orders relating to the School Management Committee ( SMC).
- Caste and Gender discrimination in society – and Its consequences on children’s education.
- The special skills and commitments of teachers towards children’s education.
- Concept of Common School system.
- Concept of Neighborhood Schools.
- History of Right to Education in India-Milestones.
- Tamilnadu Government Welfare and Incentive schemes for School Students.
- Central Information Commission Order on School Inspection dated 08-09-2011.
M.Thangavel of Vizhuthugal is the Master Resource persons, as a result the participants benefitted in terms of enhanced skills in working with children and addressing social problems relevant to children.
Bonded labor Abolition Act 1976, Training
On the March, 2014 a orientation training was held to the Polices at PRS, Coimbatore. The training on the Bonded labor Abolition Act 1976,. There were 60 participants, Vizhuthugal Coordinator M. Thangavel was the trainer and facilitated the sessions.
School enrollment campaign
Vizhuthugal Social Education and Development Trust has been conducting school enrollment campaign for the welfare of dropped out children. Our campaign last years was conducted at Avinashi and Tiruppur and Palladam blocks with distribution of hand bills, cultural activities and street corner meetings. As result of our campaign, a number of children were re-enrolled in last year. To deepen the effect of the campaign, we have launched one more campaign this year (in June month in the same two blocks. Inaugurated Mr.Karuppusamy MLA on Avinashi.
